How to backup Playstation games with Daemon Tools Pro?

Is it possible? If so, which settings do I choose? The reason I ask is because I was trying to play Final Fantasy VIII in my PS3, but you apparently can't get the game to run at all if you have the original release. Only the Platinum Edition works or something which seems pretty stupid to me. So, I was going to make a backup of my disc to play on a PC emulator.

Please help!
